Should the cockpit suction bailer be closed or open in normal rowing?

Closed. Open when cockpit has water and row at a moderate speed to suck the water out. Leave bailer open when boat is right side up on land or being car-topped.

What causes my rowing stroke to suddenly be completely off?

What are the holes in the deck flanges at each end of the boat?

The holes on the bow and stern are for towlines or for tying the boat to a dock. Fasten the lines supplied in one of the side ports with a stop knot in one end and feed the free end through the hole. You may also use the lines this way to tie the ends of the boat down to the bumper while car-topping.

My suction bailer won't stay down or open while I am rowing?

When the bailer is in the closed position, take a pair of pliers and slightly bend the side plates with a twisting motion. . This will cause friction when opening the bailer. Do not bend to far - experiment with fine adjustments to get just enough friction to make bailer bind when pushed down.

How does the Sailor II compass base plate mount to the stern deck?

The compass mounts by adhesive double sided foam tape. It is supplied with the compass. However, I always mount them with the foam tape and the expandable well nuts that are also supplied with the compass . There are four of them with brass pan head machine screws. That is the safest way.
